
About International Academic Competitions
IAC is a consortium of competitions for primary and secondary students operating in over 60 countries around the world. IAC’s mission is to reward academic excellence by bringing innovative, stimulating, fair, and relevant competitive opportunities to students.
Academic competitions can help students gain confidence, network with their peers, strengthen long-term memory, help with university admissions, and most of all, ignite a passion for lifelong learning. IAC wants to give children around the world rewarding academic competition opportunities.
IAC provides team and individual competitions in history, geography, science, the humanities, and more for students of all ages: from elementary school through high school. Events are held in the United States, Asia, Europe, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Africa and other regions across the globe.
Over 50,000 students and 2,000 schools from over 60 nations have competed in IAC competitions.
Geography Bee: The International Geography Bee is a worldwide geography quiz competition for primary and secondary school students. The International Geography Bee consists of the Online Regional Qualifying Exam, Regional Finals, and Asian Championships. IGB Online Regional Qualifying Exams, Regional Finals, as well as the IGB Asian Championships are held annually. Participation in IGB can also qualify students for the biennial International Geography Championships, a week-long celebration of geography with numerous quiz tournaments, geography competitions, field trips and more. The next International Geography Championships will be held in the Summer of 2024.
The International Geography Bee consists of Varsity, Junior Varsity, Middle School, and Elementary divisions.
Stage 1: Online Regional Qualifying Exam
All students must first take the Online Regional Qualifying Exam (ORQE). ORQE consists of 50 multiple-choice questions and is free for all students. Qualifying scores will be determined by the results of all students who take the exam. Qualified students can compete in the Regional Finals. The ORQE exam will be open in November, and the exam will remain open until April.
Stage 2: Regional Finals
Students who qualify through the ORQE can take part in the Regional Finals. Regional Finals are buzzer-based competitions that are held in-person or online. The top two-thirds of students from each division of the online regional finals and top half of students from each division of in-person regional finals will qualify for the annual International Geography BEE Asian Championships.
Regional Finals are held between January and May each year.
Stage 3: Asian Championship:
The Asian Championships of the International Geography Bee will be held in conjunction with the Asian Championships of the International Academic Bee, International Academic Bowl, International Science Bee, and the International History Bee and Bowl.
Internationals: Highly qualified students can take part in the International Geography Championships. The next International Geography Championships will be held in the summer of 2024.

Science Bee: The International Science Bee is a science quiz competition for individual students. The Science Bee consists of the Online Regional Qualifying Exam, Regional Finals, and Asian Championships. Questions may cover any discipline in the field of science including, but not limited to, biology, chemistry, physics, engineering, earth science, astronomy, computer science, non-computational mathematics, and the history of science.
The International Science Bee consists of Varsity, Junior Varsity, Middle School, and Elementary divisions.

Internationals: Qualified students can take part in the International Environmental and Climate Science Olympiad. The next Olympiad will be held in July 2023 in Ecuador.
Preparation Guideline:
In order to compete in any IAC competition, you must be 19 years or younger at the time of the Regional Competition. You must also be enrolled in a primary or secondary school at the time of your Regional Tournament (or have graduated within the past two months, and not yet have started university studies).
All of the competitions are divided into 4 age divisions, which for the 2022-2023 academic year are as follows:

Middle School | For students born from 1 September 2009 to 31 August 2011 |
Elementary | For students born on or after 1 September 2011 |
The competition has three rounds:
- Online Regional Qualifying Exam
- Regional Finals
- Asian Championship
Online Regional Qualifying Round: is a multiple-choice online exam open to all eligible students. The ORQE is free for all students. Each exam comprises 50 questions, and students have up to 20 minutes to complete each exam. Each correct answer will receive 2 points. An incorrect answer or an answer left blank receives zero points. Students are also able to change their selected answers before submitting their answers.
Regional Finals: Regional Final tournaments are ONLY open to students who have qualified through Online Regional Qualifying Exams (ORQE). You can find if you qualified on the ORQE website by signing in with your Student ID.
All Regional Finals are buzzer-based competitions. In each Regional Final, there will be 3 preliminary rounds and 1 final round. There are 30 tossup questions per round for Varsity and Junior Varsity divisions and 25 questions for Middle School and Elementary divisions. The top 1/2 of students (including ties) from each age division of the in-person Regional Finals will qualify for the annual Asian Championships. The top ⅔ of students (including ties) from each age division of the online Regional Finals will qualify for the annual Asian Championships.
Asian Championship: International Academic Competitions Asian Championships are typically held at the JW Marriott Khao Lak Resort and Spa in Khao Lak, Thailand. The JW Marriott Khao Lak is located in an amazing setting directly on the beach about an hour north of Phuket Airport. The entire resort underwent an extensive multi-year renovation during the pandemic years, and now features new restaurants, a new wave pool, and over 200 new guest rooms!
Only students who register through Eye on Ivy are eligible to receive their medals & certificates in hard form (according to the Contest results).
