About Southeast Asian Mathematical Olympiad
SEAMO is the brainchild of Terry Chew, the author of books like ‘Wicked Mathematics’ and ‘Unleash the Maths Olympian in You.’ The exam is based on extensive research by the team in the Terry Chew Institute of Mathematical Olympiads and on the developed framework by examining multiple olympiads. The framework is known as the RA*CE framework and is used in the Terry Chew academy. The academy has produced several students who have excelled in multiple international olympiads like Kangaroo, SASMO, NMOS, RIPMWC, SMOPS, Mathlympics, SMO, AMC8, AMC10, and many more.
SEAMO is an international Math Olympiad competition that is currently held in over 18 countries with over 20,000 participants. Since 2015, it has helped students gain global recognition in the field of mathematics and widened the network of Southeast Asian Math Olympians to encourage sharing of mathematical knowledge among countries within the region. In the process, it provides encouragement to students as they build their passion for mathematics. With papers suitable for all levels, it stretches the capabilities of young Olympians 1 step at a time, which motivates them to move progressively towards their full potential.
SEAMO syllabus is developed based on the Singapore Mathematical Olympiad curriculum and 40% of contents are modified to meet international standards. It is a comprehensive syllabus which exposes students to in-depth, stimulating and interesting mathematical problems. Since 1991, Terry Chew Institute of Mathematical Olympiads team has been developing its own assessment framework by examining the mathematical Olympiad curriculum from regions such as Singapore, USA, Russia and so on. The syllabus is a guideline for what your child can expect to be tested on as a SEAMO participant. Papers are developed around the topics listed. Papers may include topics which are related to or are extensions of the topics listed. For syllabus and topics, visit the link.
All Candidates are welcome to learn through SEAMO’s YouTube Training Videos. This is a training course conducted by Coaches at Terry Chew Academy aimed at preparing students for the upcoming SEAMO competition. The videos are available on YouTube and cater to candidates sitting for Papers A through F. To watch, simply Click Here to follow the youtube channel. Registered Candidates may login to the SEAMO Portal to download a copy of SEAMO’s past competition paper with answer key for practice purposes. Candidates may also refer to the SEAMO past-paper book series with solutions for extra practice.
SEAMO caters to students aged 7 to 18 years. Students should indicate their academic grade level at the time of registration. The SEAMO Portal will allocate students to their respective papers automatically.

Academic Misconduct
This policy sets out the process and procedures for identifying, investigating and responding to incidents of academic misconduct by candidates who have enrolled in the SEAMO Online Examination.
Identification Verification
Each Candidate is required to use a device with a working camera. The webcam will capture video recordings periodically throughout the exam. SEAMO will review these recordings to determine whether or not a candidate has adhered to the exam rules and regulations.
Built-In Safeguards
- The examination platform is equipped with the following functionalities:
- Time Zone detection via geolocation
- Countdown Timer from start to end
- Exit Fullscreen triggers auto-submit
- Autosave upon loss of internet connection
Data Forensics
A variety of data points will be captured before, during and after the exam and analyzed. Exam responses or patterns of behavior that are identified as statistical anomalies may place the candidate's results under review.
Randomization of Question Sequence
The order in which questions are presented to each candidate within the exam will be randomized.
Candidates will be allowed an unlimited number of attempts of the SEAMO mock exam to
familiarise themselves with the examination platform.
SEAMO-X: SEAMO X is the international round where SEAMO top performing candidates represent their country on the global stage. There are two (2) different divisions in this round of the competition. Candidates in the Champions Division and Open Division will be ranked separately.
SEAMO X Champions DivisionAll candidates who were awarded the GOLD, SILVER or BRONZE awards are eligible to participate i.e., candidates ranked in the 60th Percentile or higher.
SEAMO X Open DivisionAll candidates who were awarded the Certificate of Participation are eligible to participate i.e., candidates ranked lower than the 60th Percentile.
Candidates are ranked within their own academic level. Candidates of a higher grade level will not be ranked against candidates of a lower grade level.
SEAMO recognises all its medal winners and will support their application for entry into top schools. Apart from Medals and Certificates, SEAMO X top performers will receive a Letter of Recommendation, which serves as an endorsement by the Chief Examiner Mr Terry Chew.
Eye on Ivy Medals & Certificates:
Only students who register through Eye on Ivy are eligible to receive their medals & certificates in hard form (according to the Contest results).
Please make sure you provide us with the correct postal address at the time of registration. The courier would be dispatched to the provided address only ONCE. If for some reason you are unable to receive it you are requested to collect the same by visiting our office.
