Reform in Education: A Conversation Among Educators

The Educators’ Community, a project of seasoned educators with extensive experience in the field of education, held “University Education” session a virtual round table discussion on Private Sector Education in Pakistan. Ms. Shanza Khan, Founder and CEO of Eye on Ivy, participated in the session and offered her valuable insights to fellow educators. The discussion was moderated by Dr. Muhammad Shahbaz Khan, Head of Mphil in Education Leadership at Beaconhouse National University (BNU) The panelists tackled the complexities of education reform. Diverse challenges, from tailoring programs to executing hybrid models, were explored. Ms. Shanza Khan highlighted the pivotal role students play in assessing teaching quality as students are the best judge of a teacher’s effectiveness. She mentioned that US universities rely on anonymous student evaluations to judge teachers. This helps identify good teaching methods and reward strong instructors. She emphasised that students’ perspectives are vital in gauging the effectiveness of teaching methodologies. Everyone agreed that quality assurance and feedback mechanisms are important for improvement, with emphasis on internal improvement before external checks. To sum it up, the dialogue showcased a commitment to improving educational outcomes and ensuring quality education for all students. Despite the complexities and challenges in education reform, participants demonstrated a shared commitment to finding solutions and driving positive change within the education sector.

Learning Alliance, Aziz Avenue, hosted a “O’Level Subject Selection Workshop” for Grade 8 students, featuring Ms. Shanza Khan, Founder and CEO of Eye on Ivy. The workshop was primarily conducted by Vice Principal Ms. Maira Afzal Nadir while the Principal, Ms. Bushra Malik was also present. In one segment of the workshop, Ms. Shanza Khan outlined EoI’s offerings like profile building, placements, leadership planning, volunteer work, and summer activities that help with students’ college admissions abroad. As a Learning Alliance partner, EOI’s services were highlighted to assist students. This helps in making informed decisions about profile building and counseling. The presentation garnered significant interest, with attendees engaged and posing questions. Reflecting the keen interest of students in preparing for their academic journeys. The workshop, a synergy of educational institutions and industry experts. This provided a comprehensive view of college admissions abroad. It emphasised holistic development through placements, leadership planning, volunteer work, and summer activities. This holistic approach resonated with students. Seeking a competitive edge in the global educational landscape. In conclusion, the “O’Level Subject Selection Workshop” was a catalyst for informed decision-making, sparking curiosity. Providing valuable insights that will shape the academic journeys of Grade 8 students at Learning Alliance. EducationUSA recently welcomed a cohort of promising scholars into the Competitive College Club (CCC) for the 2024-26 academic year. Held at the prestigious Prometric Centre, FC College Lahore, the induction event was not only a celebration of academic excellence but also evidence of transformative power of guidance and mentorship. Among the group of students inducted, each represents the top 10% of their class, showcasing their exceptional academic achievements. Their induction into the CCC signifies not just recognition but also an opportunity to receive comprehensive support and guidance throughout their university application journey. It was a moment of pride as students from EoI’s partner school, Learning Alliance, were also inducted into the CCC 2024-25 cohort, further highlighting the collaborative efforts to nurture and support academic excellence across educational institutions. EducationUSA CCC (Competitive College Club welcomes student for the academic year 2024-2026. The induction event was not just a formal affair; it was an engaging experience designed to inspire and motivate the incoming cohort. A quiz program added an element of fun. Then came the segment where audience heard from CCC members of previous cohorts about their experiences and success stories that served as both encouragement and guidance for the newcomers. Listening to firsthand accounts of how previous cohorts secured admissions to universities in the USA, often with scholarships, highlighted the impact of the CCC program. Now these promising scholars get ready for their journey with the CCC, with confidence as they are part of a supportive community committed to their success.

The session was interactive and covered topics such as subject selection, taking career tests to determine high potential areas and aptitudes. Ms. Shanza Khan, CEO of Eye on Ivy, in a recently held event at Lahore University of Management and Sciences (LUMS) demystified the Deferred MBA application process (The Deferred MBA Experience) and offered expert advice to help students navigate their academic journey. Attendees heard firsthand from Haider Sultan, Pakistan’s Trailblazing Yale Silver Scholar, as he shared his journey to success through a Deferred MBA program. Toward the end, there was a lively Q&A session where attendees cleared doubts about Deferred MBA and gained clarity. It was a great opportunity to gain valuable knowledge and inspiration that could shape student’s career paths where she provided valuable insights and expert advice to help students navigate the Deferred MBA application process.

Eight Pakistani Students Awarded Quill and Scroll Gold
Keys for Editorial Writing

Lahore, Pakistan – 27th April 2024 – Eight talented Pakistani students were awarded prestigious Quill and Scroll Gold Keys for their submissions in the Editorial Writing Contest, co-sponsored by Eye on Ivy and Quill and Scroll in an impressive event in Lahore. Introduction to Quill and Scroll Founded in 1926 at the University of Iowa, Quill and Scroll is an international honor society for high school journalists. It boasts over 11,300 chapters across 50 US states, D.C., and 29 countries. The winning editorials tackled a pressing issue facing Pakistani youth: the impact of the pandemic on mental health. The students’ articles showcased insightful analysis and compelling arguments. They explored the specific struggles of mental health in Pakistan, addressed the stigma surrounding seeking help, and offered solutions for creating a more supportive environment. The Editorial Writing Contest saw outstanding submissions across both Category levels. In A Category (Grades 9-10), Ayaan Shahbaz from Learning Alliance DHA emerged victorious, claiming the first-place title. Rohaan Imran from Lahore Grammar School Phase 5 and Menaal Kashif from Learning Alliance International secured second and third place respectively. Eshal Yasir’s editorial earned her an honorable mention. Eshal is from Learning Alliance International. Category B (Grades 11-13) also produced exceptional work. Natalia Syed’s compelling arguments impressed the judges, awarding her the first position She represents Learning Alliance DHA. Laiba Fawad from Learning Alliance DHA and Syeda Imaan Shiraz from Headstart Gulmohar received second and third place. A student from Learning Alliance International, Nur Ali’s work earned her an honorable mention. The winning students are now eligible to apply for Quill and Scroll scholarships, opening doors to study journalism or participate in student media at U.S. colleges and universities. Toward the end of the event, sixteen students were inducted into the Quill & Scroll Honorary Society in an impressive oath-taking ceremony. Students had to meet a rigorous criteria to qualify for induction including proof of three works of publication, academic performance higher than a B average, and a letter of recommendation from an English Language or Literature teacher.
